FEEDBACK

|
Here are some of the letters we received following last week's show. [Please
note: Only signed letters will be considered for publication.]
ZOOM FOR SMILES
I loved Allen Funt. I was in elementary school, but I will never
forget his great smile and sense of humor. Good thing given the nature of the
business! There is one thing that really bothers me though. When the show was
over and the final "smile, you're on Candid Camera" was uttered, the camera would
zoom in on a member of the audience. Your show seems incomplete without that little
bit. You are using a live audience aren't you? Other than that, I love the show.
It brings back good memories.
Terry Worley, Oregon
[Peter's reply: Many people have written to say the same thing about zooming
in on the studio audience. The problem is, they all know what we're doing, and
their reactions aren't really "candid." My dad stopped doing it for that very
reason.]
NOT A FAN
Suzanne Somers was and still could be an attractive lady, if she
did not act, dress, and pretend to be a 25-year old. She really takes away from
the show with her fake naiveté and her poor taste in clothing.
Margo, Virginia Beach, Virginia
IS CREDIT DUE?
I was surprised to see that an idea I sent you in my letter of March
28, 1999 (the physician who is also a veterinarian) was used on your November
5 show without as much as an acknowledgement. It would have been the decent thing
to do.
A. Ted Rosman, Buena Park, California
[Peter's reply: We'll check on that. The problem is we receive thousands of
suggestions, and many are duplicates. Also, many have already been done years
ago on Candid Camera.]
MORE AFRICAN AMERICANS
I haven't seen many African Americans on your show. Are you afraid
of their reactions? I like to see more people that we as African Americans can
relate to also. I've seen some but not many! I do like Candid Camera otherwise!
K. Washington, Miami
[Peter's reply: I don't know what show you're watching. Candid Camera catches
Black Americans all the time. We don't care who we catch, as long as the reactions
are fun and interesting!]
SMILES FROM TOLEDO
Thank You in every language to you for the joy I experience seeing
Peter and Suzanne walk on your set. They are such a happy pair and complement
one another beautifully. I am astonished that an American with a TV does not recognize
Peter when he shows up.
Cindy, Toledo, Ohio
TOO ANGRY?
I was wondering, as I watched the episode airing November 19, how
you handle people who really get very upset at some of the pranks you pull? For
the most part, most events are very funny. But the "Returns Counter" gag would
have made me angry. That lady with the binoculars looked very upset.
Kristy Halseth
[Peter's reply: Actually the lady with the binoculars wasn't very upset, just
frustrated. We try to demonstrate life's little frustrations in a humorous way
- without going too far. My job is to judge each of the people I'm talking with
and stop short of giving them more than their emotions can handle.]
LIKED THE SIDEWAYS ELEVATOR
I just finished watching your elevator show, and it was hilarious.
Yours is one of the few clean, entertaining shows on television. Keep up the good
work.
Bud Hans, Forest Hill, Md.
…AND THE HANDSHAKES
I can't tell you how totally hilarious I found the segment on the
guy asking directions and then engaging people in lengthy and wacky handshakes.
I was laying in bed watching your show and I was laughing so hard and could not
stop! I only wish my husband had been around to see it. That idea was brilliant
and I hope you make it a regular thing on the show.
Melinda L. Garza, San Antonio, TX
STRESS-FREE VIEWING
I'm a college student with a high level of stress to go with my
straight A grades. Candid Camera is my stress therapy. I only wish you were syndicated
so I could have a daily dose. If you come out with videos of past shows for sale,
I will buy them all!
