Here are more of the letters recently received
from Candid Camera viewers. (Please note, only signed letters will be considered
for publication.)
HOW PEOPLE REACT
We were quite pleased that you finally started showing more of the
people's reactions to being on Candid Camera. Our favorite part has always been
when people find out they were caught on your show. Keep it up. I remember back
in the day of Allen's show they seemed to show everyone's reactions. Anyway, thanks
for an entertaining and amusing show.
Dave and Denise Bustanoby, Washington State
[Peter's reply: It's interesting that so many people write
to tell us the same thing. We've reviewed all the tapes and film from my father's
library and I can assure you that he didn't show more reactions (when people heard
they were on Candid Camera) than we do today. I suspect that because it's such
a happy and memorable part of the show that the images stick in viewers' memories.
We'll continue to include as many good "reveals" as possible.]
TIME IS MONEY
I really enjoyed the bathroom sinks gag
in which the water would flow when the subject was way from each sink. I was very
impressed by the ingenuity of the guy who thought to place his hands under two
sinks at a time. I also liked the gag with the Styrofoam peanuts bulging up out
of the crate. It made me want to ask: Do you compensate people who appear on your
show? I'm particularly thinking of the office helpers or temps, since a day is
taken out of their pursuit of a career.
Frank, Chicagoland
area
[Peter's reply: Everyone who appears on Candid Camera
gets a token payment of about $30. But when we catch a "temp" worker, that person
gets paid in full for the time they expected to work - even if we only took up
a few minutes of their day.]
LETTERS ABOUT 'FAMILY FRIDAY'
I really think Candid Camera is the most
entertaining family show to watch. My two children ages 10 and 4, my husband and
myself all gather around the TV on Friday night to watch. We really enjoyed the
July 7 show with the bathroom sinks that had minds of their own. Keep up the great
work and thanks for the great clean fun!
Angie Martin, North
Carolina
I would like to express my gratitude to
you and your crew in producing excellent television for the whole family. Your
show is one of the few shows on television that families can sit together and
watch. The segments create much laughter in our house as you do throughout the
world.
Tim
and Sherri Tyson
Laughter is therapeutic, and it's like taking
a Valium to watch your show. Thank you for a clean, funny, entertaining show.
One more comment - for those of us who think modesty is a still a virtue, I personally
enjoy the show more when Suzanne Somers is fully clothed. At times her attire
is inappropriate for a family show. Suzanne has a sweet personality and pretty
face and I doubt her "underdressing" attracts many viewers. Thank you for giving
me this opportunity to share my opinion.

Tonight you aired a segment on pumping self-serve
gas in Oregon. Although you tried to bleep what the man was saying, we certainly
understood him. You have a good show. But the editors must remember that children
can read lips too. Funny does not have to be vulgar.
Chad
and Susie Simpson, Taylor, Michigan
[Peter's reply: We try our best to please a large and
diverse audience. Rather than throw out an entire sequence, "bleeping" seems to
be a middle ground for most viewers. If your kids are sophisticated enough to
read lips and understand what's being said, then they probably know that in this
big world there are people who, at times, use harsh language. By bleeping it,
we send a signal to your kids that we don't approve.]
