  SIDEWAYS ELEVATOR

Here's the Secret Behind a Memorable Stunt

Many Candid Camera viewers recall one of the most amazing stunts when people are convinced they're riding in an elevator sideways! (This sequence is included in the home video Candid Camera's Biggest Surprises.)

It took prop expert Glen Cockrell about a week to build the elevator. It was set up in the lobby of a building that didn't actually have an elevator. A fake wall was constructed, with two elevator doors. Behind the wall an elevator car was set up on tracks, so it could be rolled 32 feet from side to side.

Pictured: Candid Camera's Melissa Zipper, Jennifer Ware, Kate McNamara, Fred Sterenberg, Peter Funt and Glen Cockrell. (Aaron Aulenta and Chris Rauber helped behind the elevator car.)
